Gitanidarsana: Similes of the Bhagavadgita, Volumes 1 and 2 (VHS)
In the Bhagavadgita, Krishna employs various teaching methods to aid
Arjuna's comprehension and to remove his doubts. He often explains a
difficult statement with the aid of a simile drawn from everyday
experience, and the Bhagavadgita contains some of the the most suggestive
similes in the entire literature of Hinduism. These add a visual dimension
to words and invite reflection and exploration.
In this two-part video series, Prof. Rambachan has chosen twelve similes
for discussion. They deal with diverse, but interrelated matters such as
the nature of the self, death, scriptures, self-control, God, wisdom and
peace. They offer an exciting entrance into the Hindu world view and into
the doctrines of the Bhagavadgita.
Each lecture is approximately 15-20 minutes long and begins with a
Sanskrit recitation of the text, followed by an English translation and
transliteration. This will be suitable courses in Hinduism and Asian
religions and is intended to stimulate classroom discussion. A text
entitled, "Gitanidarsana" is available to accompany the video series.
Running time for series is: 3 hours and 26 minutes.
