I just ran across a site called Upcoming.org. Registered users can enter events. Registered or not, you can search by metro area, by venue, or by person. Coolest of all, you can subscribe to event lists via RSS (for easy incorporation into your RSS Reader or as a Bloglines.com subscription) or iCal.

I've subscribed to the RSS Feed for Northfield, MN. You can also view a web site containing the Events in Northfield, MN.
